12/24/2008 CHRISTMAS AGAINChristmas is again with us. I never liked xmas very much .One reason maybe is that most of my life i have been working in catering so xmas is more work normally and longer hours when everybody else is having fun and me trying to keep them at it. With age it is getting worse i think . For me xmas has become just one big circus .Just a reason to spend more money on must give presents to people you wouldn't even think of giving presents to.Most of them i suppose will soon finish in the bin or on some dark shelf where no one will ever use them again . I am pessimistic i know but thats life eh. One thing i always hated is giving presents to the bosses and to people we don't really see eye to eye. Why should the staff fork out money to buy a present to someone who earns the times as much or more especially as most of the time they would wish to see them hanging from the first large tree they see outside. If anything it should be the other way round thanking the staff for making them so much money lol.Most of the time you don't even get a thanks ,imagine presents .
For me xmas should be about having a good time together or maybe try to make peace with members of the family or friends that we have irritated or lost contact with.It should be a period when at least we try to be less selfish and more understanding of the needs of those around us.I don' see what money and presents have to do with the birth of Christ who didn't even have a decent roof over his head when he was born. We should make an effort to come down to earth and celebrate xmas for what it is not for commercialism only .I know it is difficult. I tend to fall in the same trap as well sometimes but i try to make an effort. Season's greetings to all . |
